Apple Investigating iPhone 3G Performance Issue Observed After Upgrading To iOS 4

Some of our readers who own an iPhone 3G have reported that iOS 4 has slowed down their iPhone, which has forced some of them to downgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3 or try workarounds to make it faster. Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple is "looking into" complaints from iPhone 3G users about performance issues with iOS 4. WSJ reports: The most common criticism is that the phone is slow after an upgrade. There are also many complaints that the phone drains the battery quickly and becomes excessively hot. Concern about general problems such as slowness and battery life on gadgets isn't unusual, but using iOS 4 on the iPhone 3G seems to make the problems so bad that the phone is nearly unusable for some people. Apple had excluded features like multitasking and customization of iPhone homescreen introduced in iOS 4 for iPhone 3G due to hardware limitations so it was disappointing to see that users still ended up facing performance issue even without resource intensive features like multitasking disabled. Interestingly, based on feedback from our readers, it looks like disabling Spotlight for iPhone makes iPhone 3G faster for some of our reader. We are also hearing some reports that iOS 4.1 seems to also address the performance issue on iPhone 3G to some extent. As always, we will let you know if and when Apple releases a fix to resolve the issue until then you could try out the tip to make it faster. Read More →

Ultrasn0w likely will be updated in the future or, who knows, unlocking new tools will be released. But for now, just stay away from the update button. Read More →
